July 15, 2009

Hello again. So I am so so busy at my job and i dont really know what I'm doing fully. And because the program I work on is brand new, nobody can really help me with it. Also, I recently ran my first 15K run. I think that converts to 9.3 miles. Definately the longest I have ever ran. I'm really hoping to do a marathon in the spring. But I sure need some work. I am still sore from the 15K. That night I got to heat Ollie say Mama which was wonderful!!! He was playing on the floor and I was talking to Matt when he said it but I heard it!! Today I got a package and it was like christmas. I got a cute Ollie pic, water balloons, airfreshner, popcorn, a picture frame, a game of some sort, conditioner thanks to Missy and some other things. Well thats all for today.

July 8, 2009

So... Its been a while since I've blogged. Lots has happened from the end of May until now. I will see how much of it I can remember. I got a 4 day pass and Matt Oliver Mom and Dad all came to Indiana to see me. We had a blast! We went to the zoo and ate out a lot. My favorite part was cuddling with my little Olive. Just hanging out with the Fam was fun too. Sometime after that 4 day pass was up we flew to Kuwait where we climatized and did a bit of training. We stayed in big tents with 3 different units of females. That was interesting! Everywhere we walked in Kuwait was extremely far and it was usually pretty windy so the sand was constantly blowing in every ones faces. I did get to do a couple cool things. I found a place where you pick out a children's book and you go into a little room and video tape yourself reading it and then they send the book and video home. So I read 2 books for Ollie. I got a manicure and pedicure and message at the spa! That was nice. I also played a little ping pong, went to a movie and hung out on my computer in star bucks. After a couple weeks in Kuwait we flew to Iraq. This was probably my most favorite part because I got to sit in the cockpit of a c17 witch was so totally awesome. They let me where a head set too so I could hear everything. I just loved it. I was trying so hard to be cool about it but I couldn't get the big cheesy smile off my face. It didn't even matter that we had been up for over 24 hours. To and from the airport twice. Unloaded and loaded every ones gear on to pallets and trucks at least 6 times. Got on the plane with the 2 cutest 16 year old pilots and then off the plane due to bad weather. It was quite the even to get here but we finally made it and I was so happy! So now we are here and all settled in to out CHU(containerized housing unit). They are pretty nice. We have pretty decent beds, and we both have a locker and a night stand with a lamp. Sounds like my job is going to keep me pretty busy for the year. I will always have something to do. It'll take some time for me to get the hang of it but I think it'll be ok. I work in the motor pool/ maintenance section with 6 other guys who are all pretty nice. Anyways, I will try to keep posting stuff. And I'll work on getting pictures on here too.

Today just my platoon did mounted combat patrol. Pretty much just riding in vehicles looking for IEDs and reacting to ambushes and other stuff. I was the driver of my vehicle. It made the day go by so so fast. I went for a 2 and a half mile run in the dark. I felt pretty good. My calves are really sore though. I talked to Matty for a long time and then watched a movie and fell asleep. Well I'm done updating on what I missed so far.

Today was wonderful. I had a PT test early this morning and I passed. I actually improved a lot. I did 45 pushups 61 Sit-ups and I ran my 2 miles in 18:02. I didnt pass weight though. I think I'm gaining muscle. At 1:00 we had about a half an hour class on cold weather injury(WTF in the desert??) and that was it for the day. It was such a nice relaxing day.

Today we got up early and went to a range. It was kinda fun. The had smoke going off and fake bombs and we had to run up to the front line and start shooting. My Combat lifesaver had to give someone an IV just for the heck of it. She did it with all kinds of shooting going on all over. I was so proud. After that range we went back to our FOB and cleaned and the told us we had to march 2 and a half miles back but we got to the end of the road and there were busses waiting for us. I was so happy! Today is Matty's half bday and I sent him a candy bouquet. I hope he loves it.

May 26, 2009

So Tuesday was ok. It was really short. We did IED defeat. It was pretty much a convoy that went out and searched for IEDs. We were done by 2 or so. The showers were really stinky but at least we got to shower. I cant believe they originally had planned for us to be in the field for 10 days. All of the prior training back home paid off. Cause we got out of losts of training. Also being in the field makes everyone more home sick. But we were all pretty goofy so that made things better.

So... I got behind on my blogging. So I'm going to go from memory. Monday was really rainy and we had training outside. It went by fast but my goodness it was crappy. We did get 2 hot meals a day out at the range. That was really nice. I actually only got one cause i slept through breakfast. I need my sleep more than i need food. The training we did was all checkpoint security or gate security. We manned the towers and did a QRF (quick reaction force) team. Its when a team of 4 vehicles go outside the gate to investigate something. All this training is really we are doing is worst case scenario. I'm 99 percent positive that I wont be doing any of this stuff overseas.

Good news!! I can get on the internet here. And I am 23 and 2 months today. I'm getting old. Anyways, we had a road march out here and we got ambushed a couple times it wasn't too bad except my classes kept fogging up. Then we had classes in a humongo hott tent. It was awful. No one could stay awake and its tunk. We have the rest of the day free and nothing to do but sleep in the hot tents. I'm glad the computer hut is air conditioned. Well I'm off to check out thew showers and maybe take a nap.

So I've been here a full week now. It seems like I've been here for a month. I am so so tired and need to get sleep because we have a big Training exercise for the next three days. I wont be able to talk to anyone until wednesday. The only electronic devices we can bring are flashlights and cameras. I went to walmart today!! So far that has been the best part of this trip. I got off post and felt like I was doing somthing wrong. I got lots of goodies though! Tomorrow we are road marching out to the (FOB forward operating base) and I guess we are getting attacked and all sorts of fun stuff!! I cant wait. Ha! It shouldnt be too bad and I bet it'll go by fast. The only really crapy part is that I will have auntie flow the whole time we are out there. Well I need to join the snorers. They are calling me. Goodnight. Talk to everyone on Wednesday night.

May 22, 2009

Today was so so boring. We did linen exchange so i got a new batch of bed bugs!! Woohoo! Then we had some classes which took about an hour to get through. After that we did PT. We ran about 2 miles in 90 degree weather. I guess I cant complain too much sice we are going to be in Iraq where it is much hotter. I forgot to write yesterday that April and I went for a walk and saw a stunt pilot flying around but we didnt realize he was a stunt pilot for a bit. We thought he was going crash. He was spinning and going towards the ground. It was scary. Time fore bed.

May 21, 2009

Hello Hello! Today was good. This morning we went to a range and did reflexive fire. It was a little scary cause we had to walk with our weapon on the range and when i taget popped up we had to react and turn to it and shoot. ANd we had 30 people at a time on the range. Then me and three other people shoot the M203 grenade launcher. We had to requalify (we already did it in March). Needless to say I was so mad we had to re-do it. But it ended up being way worth it. It went so fast and we got to shoot live grenades not just the chalk ones. And we were back at the same time as everyone else. We had the rest of the afternoon off. I took a nap and then April and I went for a 2 and a half mile walk. It was nice. We both vented a lot. The army is so frustrating at times. Later, I went for a 2 mile run with a group of people. Now I'm typing. Well its time for bed.
Lots of love

Hello Everyone! I'm hoping this works for everyone. I'll keep everyone who comes on here updated with different things I'm doing and where I am. Let me know if you get this and please send it out to family and friends. I only sent it to Matt, Mom and Kim. Those are the only addresses I know off the top of my head. Today I threw a hand grenade and sat through about 4 hours of classes. The hand grenade was scary and fun. Kind of an adrenaline rush. I'm not a big fan of bombs. Especially holding them but I did it!! Then I sat through a 3 hour class on my weapon and then all the E5 and above went to a Command Sergeant Major of the Post meeting. It was alright but I couldnt really understand him much and every other word out of his mouth was fuck. Anyways, I am so tired and hasve yet another headache. I will write tomorrow.XOXOXMegan
